Excursion
AKA: The Excursions. Young Underground
Group Members: Frank Renfrow • Kenny Renfrow • Tim Dozier • James “Droopy” Greathouse • Vincent Beavers • Norman Beavers • Harvey Ellison • Roy Miller • Connie Limcool (information please)
Bio: This group was founded by the Renfrow Brothers. It was called “Excursion” which had evolved from “The Excursions”. “Excursion” (1969-71) was composed of four members; Tim Dozier on Drums, James “Droopy” Greathouse on latin percussion, Kenny on electric guitar and Frank on electric piano. The repertoire was all original and all instrumental, sort of ala Santana, but very unique. “The Excursions” (1967-69) included all of the above along with Vincent Beavers (bass), Norman Beavers (keyboards), and Harvey Ellison (vocals). The repertoire included much of the popular Soul music of the time. This is the group that performed the music for the Young Mod’s record, Gloria.
